Dear OHG Neighbors,

Our Holiday Party, otherwise known as the Candlelight Tea, was a great success.  I want to take this opportunity to thank all of the wonderful people of our community who helped to make this event such a great success with special thanks to Marghi O’Neil and Stephanie Carter who chaired the event.   Following our Holiday Party was another successful event, the annual Old Harbour Green Toy Drive for the poor.  I was so proud to lead the cars and Santa’s Sleigh throughout this great neighborhood and witness our community’s wonderful generosity to help the needy.  Special thanks go to the Turano family who once again spearheaded this very impressive event.  Santa’s Sleigh was packed with toys by the end of the day which meant that a lot of less fortunate boys and girls would be getting holiday presents.  This is great news!

We should all be very proud to live in this well-known community.  Maintaining this community as a beautiful place to live should always be a part of our civic efforts.  Part of the charm of this neighborhood begins when you enter from Merrick Road through lighted gates at both Cedar Shore Road and Bay Drive.  As I discussed in the December newsletter, I again would like to call your attention to the fact that this property is owned by our community under the auspices of the Harbour Green Civic Association (HGA), and as a result, we pay approximately $7,000 in property tax each year to maintain ownership.  It is with the $45.00 dues that most of you pay each year that we are able to maintain these properties, thereby preventing any possibility of our quaint front gates and property being taken away and losing ownership.  With this alone, I urge you to pay your dues to maintain our ability to have front gates and property owned by all of our HGA paid members.   Further, any remaining money goes to supporting community efforts such as the Easter Egg Hunt (4/1 at 10 am), Halloween Parade (10/27), Holiday Tea (12/1), Children‘s Party(12/7) and the yearly Toy Drive (12/15) to name a few.

Finally, a big thank you goes to Mark Snyder for his many years of great service to our community with heading up the HGA newsletter and thanks to Rob Scarola for volunteering to take over this huge responsibility.  I look forward to working with this very dedicated and committed Board of Governors to further improve our community and to make this neighborhood a great place for all of us to live and grow old together.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

David Palmer

Oyster Bay Town Board Hearing regarding OHG Zoning PDF Print E-mail
Written by Harbour Green Association

Dear Neighbor,
By now you should have received a notice from the Town of Oyster Bay regarding a hearing at Town Hall on 17, May 2011. At the hearing the Town will propose three (3) zoning changes to Old Harbour Green, which are the result of more than four years of studying the properties in our historic community. They are:

  1. Creation of a zoning district for Old Harbour Green
  2. To apply the new zoning district to Old Harbour Green
  3. Eliminate the split zoning that applies to the Grace Church property and assign it the same zoning for the entire parcel, to coincide with the adjacent church, Saint Rose of Lima.

For years our Civic Association Board has been regularly approached by residents asking, “What are we doing about overdevelopment?” and, “What can we do to preserve the character and charm of our community?”
